SweetTruth scans packaged food barcodes and instantly converts the sugar content into teaspoons โ so you always know what you're actually eating.
How it works
No sign-up, no manual entry. Point your camera at a barcode โ SweetTruth does the rest.
Open the app and point your camera at any packaged food barcode โ EAN or UPC barcodes on most products around the world.
The sugar content is instantly shown in teaspoons โ low, medium, or high โ alongside hidden sugar warnings if sweeteners are buried in the ingredients.
Put it back or put it in the cart โ your choice, made with actual information instead of marketing copy on the front of the package.
The sugar meter
"4g of sugar" doesn't mean much. "1 teaspoon" does. SweetTruth converts every sugar reading into teaspoons and colour-codes it against WHO guidelines.
e.g. plain oats, most nuts
e.g. many breakfast cereals
e.g. flavoured drinks, chocolate biscuits
The conversion is simple: 1 teaspoon = 4 grams of sugar. The WHO recommends adults consume less than 25g (6 teaspoons) of free sugar per day. A single can of a popular cola contains about 9 teaspoons โ 150% of that daily limit.
Why it matters
Food manufacturers list sugar under over 50 different names โ glucose syrup, maltose, dextrose, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice concentrate. SweetTruth scans the full ingredients list and flags every hidden source, so nothing slips through.
That's about 6 teaspoons. The average person in many countries consumes 2โ3ร that amount each day, mostly from packaged food and drinks.
Maltodextrin, fructose, barley malt, cane juice, agave nectar โ all sugar. SweetTruth checks for all of them and surfaces a hidden-sugar warning when they're present.
According to US FDA research. From bread and pasta sauce to "healthy" granola bars โ added sugar turns up in foods most people wouldn't suspect.
